Not all Non-Profits are Charities

In Arizona, a non-profit is not necessarily a charity. Often people make the mistake of assuming a non-profit is automatically a charity, which can leave the non-profit organization open to tax liability down the road. A non-profit is an organization is created for some purpose other than making a profit for owners or investors, but not necessarily for a purpose that would qualify it for exemption from taxes. To become a public charity, you must first file as a non-profit organization, but also take the extra step to file for tax exempt status.  In order to form a tax-exempt charity, you must file a separate application with the IRS.

The Outlets at Anthem Christmas Tree Lighting

One of the unique traditions held in our community is the Outlets at Anthem 9th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. This year, the tree lighting was held on Saturday, November 20. Stores were packed with families who biked, walked, and drove to the Outlets to witness Santa light up the tallest tree in the nation for the first time of the season. The 110 foot-tall tree is decorated with more than 50,000 lights and 3,000 ornaments. During the holiday season, each of the stores has been encouraged to ask customers to donate gifts for under $10 to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Our attorneys at The Carroll Law Firm PLC and their families were among the thousands of people present to witness the event.

Other upcoming holiday events at the Outlets at Anthem include the Moonlight Madness Sale, where all of the Outlet stores will be opening at 10pm on Thanksgiving night, and Breakfast with Santa, which will be held on December 4th from 9-10am, (the proceeds from which will benefit the Childrens’ Miracle Network).
